Generally, if anyone wants to be successful in the art world, internet relevancy has now become an essential factor to success. Making your website and relevant work to your profession or passions show up first on a google search is the first step to doing so. As we researched, it became apparent that there are many simple ways to make one’s professional identity more relevant to search engine queries.

One easy way to become almost instantly more discoverable online is the use of tags or keywords, and the more distinct the better. There are many places to hide keywords, such as in HTML, links, titles and as tags on your uploads/work/posts.  Tags not only lead keyword search entries to your work, they also will suggest videos, blog posts, music among others which have related tags. If you tag all of your online professional work with your full name or pseudonym, when that name is searched the chances of the work showing up increases greatly. Along with tags, using your professional name as the user for semi-professional level hosting websites such as vimeo and flikr will also increase your search results (the first google result for my name is my vimeo page). Another simple way to grow your identity online is simply to purchase the URL of your professional name or company, as it will almost always come up as the first result in a google search. You can also submit your blog or web address to search engine directories in the case it doesn’t show up.

The submission of your posts or work to online bookmarking websites such as deilcious, digg and FFFFOUND! is an easy way to create exposure for yourself, especially if your work is regularly posted. Many users of these websites become trusted, and subsequently the work they post is seen by many. If your lucky, your work could become a favourite of one of these users, or you could become someone who posts regularly.

And now a totally unrelated link but cool nonetheless.
